Cards no longer join facts with dots. Row 3 "Your representatives:" names people with links (counts for councils over three); row 4 "Handles:" shows at most three short topics from the power tags (or the shortest power names for untagged bodies). Who handles what and the You page also put one fact per line. Checked at Bowen Island, Toronto, Montréal, Thunder Bay Unorganized and Six Nations.

Marsh Lake Local Advisory Council now shows its co-chair, Walter Latour, as a council-chosen post
Review of ticket 435: one co-chair left only in a term note (source: Government of Yukon local government directory, 18 Sep 2026). Also gave the NL CSFP vice-présidents their own selection wording instead of the président's. Loader db/load/maintainer-data/indirect_offices_alignment_review.sql.

Review of ticket 411: seated offices (MPs, senators) link to their office page instead of listing people, so their terms are left out of the section's Sourced panel and fact picker (Commons panel 348 rows -> 11, page 524 KB -> 377 KB). The picker now keeps up to 120 facts instead of 60.

Each section (who sits on it, what it can do) has one "Sourced · checked <date>" button that opens the exact source of every fact, and one "Report a problem" link whose form asks which fact (also without JavaScript). Councillors and other holders sit in 2-3 columns on wide screens, one on phones. The full Sources list at the bottom is unchanged.

Shown on the 1,735 authorities with explainer rows (migration 030), each answer citing its law and linking the statute; answers shared by every body of a type say so (e.g. "Applies to every BC municipal council"). Shares-with links fold after 5 behind "Show all N" (Metro Vancouver board has 22). Pages without rows show nothing. Example: Bowen Island Municipal Council.

BC Bill 44 entry now notes the 2025 amendment that moved the zoning deadline to 30 June 2026
Reviewed migration 032 and its seed data. The BC Bill 44 power_event summary now adds that s. 481.3 was amended by S.B.C. 2025, c. 26 (in force 27 Nov 2025), so as amended it requires zoning bylaws to permit these uses by 30 June 2026. 1,537 powers whose own text names fire protection or business licensing got the topic tag (the first load had skipped any power that already had a tag). Business licences: NL 267, MB 135, NB 77, NS 48, Yukon 8, NWT 19, Tłı̨chǫ 4, Toronto 1, First Nations under Indian Act s.83(1)(a.1) 581. Fire: NL 267, NB 77, NS villages 21, Yukon 16, QC agglomerations 11, AB fire/emergency commissions 4, Winnipeg 1. Link shows Winnipeg. Councils with no such power yet (AB, BC, SK, QC local, Halifax, St. John's) are ticket 444.

Places now show which historic treaty covers them, such as Treaty 4 for Regina
17 historic (pre-1975) treaty areas from CIRNAC's Historic treaties dataset (open.canada.ca f281b150, Open Government Licence - Canada): Peace and Friendship Treaties, Southern Ontario Treaties, Robinson-Superior, Robinson-Huron, Douglas, Williams, and Treaties 1-11. Each is a place of kind treaty_area (codes ca-ht-*) with its official French name and a link to the CIRNAC treaty text as a source; no authority attached. They appear under "Places that cover this spot" (Regina: Treaty 4; Toronto: Southern Ontario Treaties; Thunder Bay: Robinson-Superior; Victoria: Douglas Treaties; Vancouver: none). Link shows Regina. A dedicated "Treaty and territory" line is ticket 443.

contest.seats_up filled only where the clerk's certified candidate list ("N to elect") was already quoted in the contest note: 68 races with 1 seat, 2 with 2, 1 with 3 (Waterloo Region DSB, City of Waterloo). power_event seeded with More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022 (S.O. 2022, c. 21, in force 28 Nov 2022) and Housing Statutes (Residential Development) Amendment Act, 2023 (S.B.C. 2023, c. 45, LGA s. 481.3 in force 7 Dec 2023), topic housing, sourced from ola.org, leg.bc.ca and BC Laws. Ward-pair loaders asked to fill seats_up (ticket 442). Link: elections list; the topic page will show the events once ticket 441 is built.
-
Migration 032: contest.seats_up (seats filled by a contest covering only part of a body's area, NULL = unknown, never inferred from office.seats) and table power_event (acting government, power used, who is affected, kind override/limit/delegation/transfer_condition/repeal, neutral title and summary, effective date, official instrument link; every row sourced). Nothing on the site changes until the web side uses them (ticket 441). Link: elections list.

New topics: fire protection and emergencies, and business licences
Added topic rows fire and business-licences and tagged 2,134 local government powers by name: fire 1,150 (Fire protection 548, Emergency management 439, QC Fire safety cover plan 87, PEI Fire protection and emergency planning 57, Montréal Fire safety and civil protection 19); business-licences 984 (Business licensing 741 ON/AB, Business licences 161 BC, PEI Businesses and transportation 57, NWT Businesses 25). Topic pages /topics/fire and /topics/business-licences now list them (link: Ottawa). "Who handles what" picks them up once the web maintainer adds the TASKS entries (ticket 440); Ontario Fire protection no longer appears under Schools.

Review of ticket 404. Also, after a restart /about waits at most 3 s for the measures instead of up to 20 s. Checked /, /about, a lookup, /elections, a person and a place page at 1280x800 and 390x844 in light and dark: no errors, no sideways scroll, axe clean.

Mission line under the logo on the home page (wording as drafted, awaiting confirmation in decision 36). About: the full mission in three parts and measures grouped Informing / Being heard / Deliberating / Trust, each with its value, how it is calculated and the as-of date. Live today: places visitors looked up with a complete answer (22 of 31 areas, 71%), facts with a source (99.8% of 198,656 records in the core tables), median time to fix a reported error (41 minutes over 18 fixes, 40 open). Quiz, officials responding, pledges, proposals, constructive share and cross-spectrum use say "not started". No voter turnout measure. Measures are cached for 10 minutes and refreshed in the background, so /about loads in about 0.4 s (ticket 317).

Topic pages now open for Montréal and about 50 other places that showed "choose a spot" instead
Before: ?place= for Montréal, Québec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Lévis, about 25 NB municipalities, Alberta Metis settlements and several modern-treaty nations ended in "has more than one local government" (including the Montréal example and the place-page links). Now the page tries several points inside the place, falls back to a point where the place's own government is found, and offers borough chips for cities with borough councils. Also the place name at a spot prefers a municipality over a census division at the same level (8 of 308 looked-up points changed, all to the governing municipality, e.g. St. Stephen not Charlotte, Municipality of the County of Kings not Kings).

Sainte-Françoise by-election page now says its outcome is not known yet
Reviewed commit 8c2900a (tickets 297, 278, 308, 342, 364). My own rolled-back re-runs of the QC holders loader (24 skipped, 0 changes) and by-election loader (0 changes) matched the report; I checked the FN, PEI and NL facts against their sources. The by-election loader now notes when polling day has passed but Élections Québec has published no candidates or results (1 contest changed, Sainte-Françoise seat 2). Filed follow-ups for the hard-coded roster date in 06_holders.sql and one orphan source row.

Board chairs and council-chosen deputy mayors no longer show as elected by voters
336 chair, vice-chair and deputy-mayor offices in AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, SK and YT that the board or council picks from among its members changed from elected to appointed (113 in BC, including the Islands Trust Executive Committee). Example: Vancouver school board chair.
Tickets: #376
-
Every PEI council now has a Deputy Mayor office, with 32 deputy mayors named
57 Deputy Mayor offices, appointed by the mayor under the Municipal Government Act s. 91; holders taken from what research:pe-all had recorded in councillor notes, each with its original source. Example: Charlottetown.
Tickets: #198

Leader of the Official Opposition and the leaders of all 14 federal parties added
Pierre Poilievre holds the new House of Commons office Leader of the Official Opposition since 2025-08-18 (House of Commons roles). Leaders of the 14 registered parties from the Elections Canada registry, 10 of them new people; start dates only where sourced (Poilievre, Carney, Avi Lewis).
Tickets: #128

Offices held by convention and party leaders can now be recorded
Migration 031: new selection value "convention" (must say which convention), new table party_leader, and a documented convention for posts a body fills from among its own members (appointed, chosen by that body or office).
-
Who handles what no longer names a government because of words in a power's description
Ottawa schools no longer lists the city council for Fire protection; Iqaluit health no longer lists Parliament for quarantine and marine hospitals.

Each page lists every government covering a place, most local first, with its powers over the topic, the law behind each and a link to the authority. Reached from Topics, the Who handles what list, municipal place pages and the Issues page. Example: housing in Toronto (municipal zoning and building, provincial property and municipal institutions, federal banking). Some levels still have no power recorded (ticket 433).

Newfoundland and Labrador 2029 municipal elections now show as estimated, not confirmed
550 contests on 25 Sep 2029 (the statutory last Tuesday in September) set date_confirmed = false, because the Province moved the 2025 election from 30 Sep to 2 Oct. Source: gov.nl.ca release 2024-11-01. St. John's shown as the example.
Tickets: #364
-
Checked the convention first: 128 BC acclaimed local contests (and ON, AB, SK, QC acclamations) carry the date of the declaration with status held, so SD22, SD46 and SD48 already matched; their notes now state the convention and that there is no vote on 17 Oct. Two outliers (SD43 Anmore/Belcarra and 20 Manitoba school-board acclamations dated on voting day) filed as a follow-up ticket.
Tickets: #342
-
Dates and candidates only from the Nations' own sites: Homalco Election 2026 page (2 Councillor seats, 6 nominees, online voting 1-13 Oct), Aamjiwnaang Notice of Nomination Meeting (1 Chief, 9 Councillors; no candidate list published), Nation Wendat official candidate list (9 candidates for 4 Chef seats, 30 Oct). Peepeekisis, Jean Marie River, Okanese, Thunderchild and Grassy Narrows publish nothing, so they stay estimated. No candidate photos are published. The loader no longer adds an ISC estimate next to a date the Nation confirmed.
Tickets: #308

Haisla Nation has one Chief Councillor office again, held by Maureen Nyce
ISC listed her as "Chief Councillor" (2023-2027) and "Chief" (2025-2029). The duplicate "Chief" office was merged into Chief Councillor, the Nation's own title (haisla.ca), with her 2025-2029 term and the 2029 estimated election. The First Nations loader now maps head-of-council titles to one office per Nation and ends a superseded listing the day before the new term, so a re-run keeps this.
Tickets: #308
-
27 person and 27 term sources rewritten, the MLA office note too; the loader writes the same text on a re-run. Wikipedia list re-checked 2026-10-12 (27 members, no vacancies). The Assembly member page stays as a link only.
Tickets: #278
-
Saint-Venant-de-Paquette seat 6 (11 Oct 2026) and Saint-Juste-du-Lac seats 1 and 5 (25 Oct 2026) are shown as cancelled: Élections Québec lists no candidate, so the seats stay vacant. The holders loader now skips a MAMH roster holder whose post is up for a by-election and never reopens a term a correction closed (checked: the 24 terms verify:qc-municipal ended stay ended, no other change). By-elections whose detail file is not yet published are loaded from the list. Name parsing fixed for "Colistère de" / "Colistier d'" labels and "Gilles A," initials; two people rekeyed so a re-run does not duplicate them. By-election notes re-read 2026-10-12.
Tickets: #297

Review of ticket 405: the NL Towns Act template matched the five Inuit Community Governments (the Act says they are not towns), the Alberta MGA template matched Kananaskis Improvement District, and the Manitoba Municipal Act template matched the Local Government District of Pinawa (governed by The Local Government Districts Act). All seven excluded and added to ticket 429. Islands Trust Council wording fixed: municipalities appoint two council members (not necessarily councillors) as trustees (Islands Trust Act s. 7). Explainers now cover 1,728 authorities.
-
Migration 030 adds authority_explainer (five answers: what it's for, what it can't do, who it answers to, where its money comes from, who it shares responsibility with), province-wide templates, "shares responsibility with" links, and the views authority_explainer_resolved / authority_explainer_link_resolved. Backfilled 103 answers from statute text read on 2026-10-12 (Constitution Acts, Yukon/NWT/Nunavut Acts, BC Community Charter, Local Government Act, Islands Trust Act and School Act, Ontario Municipal Act, City of Toronto Act and Education Act, Alberta MGA and Education Act, Manitoba Municipal Act and Public Schools Act, NB Local Governance Act, NS MGA, NL Towns and Local Service Districts Act), covering 1,735 authorities, with 119 fact_source rows. The linked Bowen Island page will show the answers once maintainer:web builds the display (ticket 427). Gaps (Quebec, Saskatchewan, PEI, territorial municipalities, charter cities, other authority kinds) are tickets 428-430; decision 37 asks about constitutional conventions.
-
Ballots no longer repeat a place name, e.g. "Regional Councillor for Cambridge for Cambridge"
Review of commit 19fefea: the new ward-pair label (ticket 360) added the contest area even when the office was already named for it. Fixed on the banner, ballot and calendar file; also the seat line for Bowen Island Municipal Trustee. Filed ticket 425 for 13 Ontario school boards that have both a board-wide and per-area contest.
-
A contest held in only part of a council's area with no seat (Brampton "Wards 3 and 4") used to print every seat of the office ("8 regional councillor seats", "2 councillor seats"). The banner, ballot and calendar file now say "Councillor for Wards 3 and 4" and "Regional Councillor for Wards 3 and 4", with no number, since how many seats each ward pair fills is not recorded. Schema ticket 424 proposes contest.seats_up so the number can be shown when known.
Tickets: #360
-
Before, the page silently stopped after 500 contests (mid Oct 24) and showed only 50 recent results. Now the next three months are listed day by day with a per-day count, each day grouped into rows by government (e.g. "Ontario municipal and school board elections: 1,369 contests, 416 councils and boards and 72 school boards"; "Legislative Assembly of British Columbia: 93 contests"; US states grouped as "Idaho state elections"); open a row to see each council, board or seat. Later votes (2027 to 2031) are summed up by year. Recent results cover all 365 contests of the last four months, grouped the same way (National Assembly of Québec, Oct 5: 127 contests with winners); acclamations without a recorded date get their own block instead of a guessed day. Referendums filed without an office now appear too. Calendar links stay on days with up to 100 contests.
Tickets: #359

Removed two wrong images shown as council photos (Banff, Williams Lake)
The Banff mayor's and a Williams Lake councillor's photo links now led to a fire-safety poster and a newsletter page (the towns reused the image ids). Cleared both links and cached files; the old URLs are kept in the sources. Ticket 423 asks for the real portraits.
-
951 more politician photos now load from our own server
Re-ran the photo cache with a host-parallel fetcher (db/load/photos/photo-cache/fetch_photos.py): people with a photo_url but no cached copy went from 977 to 24. Most were US state legislators (MT, WA, ND, MN, ID, WY, usgov blob); also Canadian council and school-board photos. 23 Alberta/BC trustee photos behind a resizing proxy that blocks scripts now point at the identical file on the board's own site. Every new thumbnail was looked at. The 24 left are listed by host in tickets 417-422. Linked page: a Vernon school trustee whose photo is now served locally.

Tagged 4,111 powers (4,173 tags) that had no topic, by exact power name after reading every description variant: Ontario councils' Roads, Property tax, Policing, Waste management, Parks and recreation, Land use planning and development, Building regulation, Public utilities (water) and Bylaws; Manitoba Drainage (water); PEI Police services; Nova Scotia village services and tax rates; NWT and Tlicho community bylaws; Alberta Metis settlement bylaws. Untagged powers fell from 11,168 to 7,057; the rest are generic (natural person powers, borrowing, municipal purposes) or have no matching topic yet (business licences, fire; ticket 415). Side effect: Ontario property tax no longer appears under Schools. Ottawa shown as the example; Toronto and upper-tier water gaps filed as ticket 416.
-
Checked and cached about 5,400 new politician photos; 3 wrong photos removed
Sample of 58 new photos checked against source pages: 3 bad (5%) cleared, BC Greens candidates fully re-checked. 5,476 of 6,453 photos now cached locally; 64 Canadian ones blocked at source, 913 US state legislators still pending. Linked page is a representative cached photo (Susie Chant).

Added 16 mayors (Castlegar, Rossland, Princeton, Kaslo, Parksville and 11 others) from municipal council pages; 22 still missing, listed in ticket 373. Link shows Castlegar as one example.

Fixed Hamilton Ward 8 councillor Rob Cooper start date (2025-09-29). Marked 14 regional chair and Niagara regional councillor offices as not on the 2026 ballot (Better Regional Governance Act, 2026).
