- Icelandic: Alþingismaður
How it's filled
- In plain words
- Elected
- Exact method
- Elected for four years by list proportional representation in six multi-member constituencies; 9 of the 63 seats are levelling seats allocated nationally to give parties seats in proportion to their national vote, subject to a 5% threshold for levelling seats (Constitution Arts. 31-32; Act no. 112/2021 on parliamentary elections). When a member is absent a substitute (varamaður) takes the seat; members who have a substitute are still counted as holders here.
