- Appointed by the mayor from among the other members of council. Acts as mayor when the mayor is absent or unable to act, and holds the post until the mayor revokes the appointment and appoints a successor, or until they leave council. If both the mayor's and deputy mayor's offices are vacant, council may appoint an acting mayor from among its members (Municipal Government Act, s. 91).
