Acts as mayor when the mayor is absent or unable to act, and holds the post until the mayor revokes the appointment and appoints a successor, or until they leave council. If both the mayor's and deputy mayor's offices are vacant, council may appoint an acting mayor from among its members (Municipal Government Act, s. 91).
