Source: opm.gov.bs, checked (+1 more)Latest legal date. Parliament dissolves five years after its first sitting (Constitution, Art 66(3)); first sitting 20 May 2026 (State Opening, Speech from the Throne), so dissolution by 20 May 2031, and writs for the general election are returnable within 90 days of dissolution (Art 67(1)), which gives 18 August 2031. The Prime Minister can advise an earlier dissolution at any time (Art 66(2)), as happened in April 2026 when the election was held in May instead of the October 2026 deadline.
