Art. 39 Basic Law: a new Bundestag is elected 46 to 48 months after the first sitting of the 21st Bundestag (25 March 2025), i.e. on a Sunday or public holiday between 28 January 2029 and 25 March 2029. The Federal President sets the date; if the Bundestag is dissolved early, an election follows within 60 days.
