What it can do
- Appointment of the Government
The President appoints the Prime Minister elected by Parliament and the other ministers on the Prime Minister's proposal (Constitution, section 61).
- Foreign policy
The President directs foreign policy in cooperation with the Government (Constitution, section 93).
- Supreme command of the Defence Forces
The President is the Supreme Commander of the Defence Forces (Constitution, section 128).
- Dissolution of Parliament
The President may order early parliamentary elections on the reasoned initiative of the Prime Minister (Constitution, section 26).
- Pardon
The President may grant pardons (Constitution, section 105).
