- What it's for
-
The President is both head of state and head of the executive branch. The office is directly elected for a single five-year term, represents the state abroad, commands the armed forces and appoints the Prime Minister (with the Assembly's consent) and ministers.
- What it can't do
-
The President cannot be re-elected and cannot dissolve the National Assembly. Appointments of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice and Constitutional Court President need the Assembly's consent, and the Assembly may impeach the President by a two-thirds vote, subject to review by the Constitutional Court (Arts. 65, 70, 86, 104, 111).

- Must be held by April 2030 (no fixed date) General election · President of the Republic of Korea
