What it's for
A school board must provide school accommodation and appropriate educational programming for the students who have the right to attend its schools, and a safe and caring school environment.

The provincial cabinet can appoint an official trustee for a school division whose affairs are not being, or cannot be, satisfactorily managed by its board.

Provincial support, announced by the minister each year, plus a special levy on property in the division that each municipality imposes and collects for the board.

Works with the provincial government, which provides support and directs programming, and with the municipalities in the division, which collect its special levy.
