What it can do
- Dissolves the Assembly
May dissolve the Legislative Assembly after consulting the Executive Council (Nunavut Act, s. 17).
- Appoints the Executive Council
Appoints the Premier and ministers on the recommendation of the Legislative Assembly, and assigns portfolios on the Premier's recommendation.
- Assent to bills
Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly become law only when the Commissioner gives assent, on the advice of the Premier.
