What it can do

  • Executive government

    Carries out provincial laws and runs the departments; cabinet decisions take effect as orders in council approved by the Lieutenant Governor.

  • Regulations

    Makes regulations under provincial Acts, as each Act allows, e.g. the regulations that establish local governments and rural districts under the Local Governance Act.

  • Rural districts

    The Minister of Local Government administers the 12 rural districts (areas outside local governments), advised by elected rural district advisory committees (Local Governance Act, s. 176.11).
